About Us
Great Yarmouth International Association (GYIA) was formed by a group of friends who came together to celebrate our contrasting cultural heritage, while at the same time promoting and sharing our diverse history.
A Community Champions Grant gave us the opportunity to set up what eventually became GYIA and in November 2002, we were formally constituted. GYIA brought us together to counter our feelings of isolation and fulfil our dreams of promoting good relationships within the wider community.
Our aim is to bring together the different Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) groups resident in Great Yarmouth and promote good relations within the wider community through social and cultural events. So that we can:
- Enjoy the differences of our cultures,
- Integrate with the whole community,
- Expand ethnic minority networks within the local community,
- Organize events that enable people who normally feel excluded, to participate in local community activities,
- Promote networking between BME groups and various agencies, including statutory and voluntary services, local businesses and the general population,
- Enjoy our Customs, Food & Tradition &
- Create projects that allow us to help each other.
